This post is all about how to make creative vision boards that are extra powerful to keep you motivated and focused so you can manifest your wildest dreams.
Vision boards or vision collages- whatever you want to call them- have exploded within recent years, and if you’re reading this, I assume you already know what they are. They’re such a fun, creative process that feels productive since you have to evaluate and think about the things you want to achieve in life. While most people have written goals, making creative vision boards take lists to the next level by making your goals visual! Everything three dimensional always feels more real, therefore its more likely for you to develop a real connection to the things you want.
I’ve been crafting creative vision boards since middle school. My iconic grade school room had all purple walls- two of them were lavender and two were a deeper violet because purple is the color of royalty, duh. One of those walls was covered floor to ceiling of magazine pages.
This was before the days of Pinterest and Instagram where all my inspiration were from the ripped pages of good old Marie Claire, Teen Vogue and Seventeen. The wall was covered in these magazine pages that I would cut, shape and throw stickers on. It was like I scrapbooked my entire wall. There would even be decorative jewelry, chains and dried flowers pasted to the pictures to really enhance the aesthetic I was going for.
Since then, I’ve refined my vision board process, but not by too much. I really think there was something about having both photos and a three dimensional medium that brought my imagination to life. The process takes me back to those nostalgic thoughts of sitting on my blue carpet, clipping out pages from Cosmo Girl with my glue stick and decorative scissors, probably blasting a Destiney Child’s CD. It’s just one of those processes that never gets old, it just needs updates as you grow and mature.
The Best Way To Create Vision Boards For Ultimate Flexibility
Okay, so everyone knows you can go online and make free virtual vision boards, but I like mine to be physical. I just think it’s way more powerful to physically create it with your hands and get all the senses involved. You can also just get a poster board and glue a bunch of pictures, but I find that subpar since they’re usually not aesthetic enough to hang somewhere I’m actually going to see it everyday.
Also, my goals and vibes change with the season. I like to be able to switch out the photos when I have a new goal or my inspiration just needs an entire refresh. So, I’ve found the perfect solution to making creative vision boards that are physical, updatable and cute & that’s by using cork boards.
The cork board and push pins combination is the perfect way to make creative vision boards. It gives you the creative freedom to add whatever you want to the board, and the flexibility to change out the photos whenever you want. I mean, it’s so much more flexible and organized than a poster board and a fucking glue stick, you know? You can use decorative push pins, you don’t have to worry about the glue getting messy and sticky, and you can even hang things from the pins. The options are really as limitless as your imagination here.
Now, right now I prefer straight-forward, yet creative vision boards. Something that has a theme and mood but without too much clutter. That’s why I like to use real digital photos as opposed to magazines, paper or mixing too many mediums. But here’s the beauty- that can change any time because I can just take the photos down & incorporate something completely different depending on my mood that season, month or even week. Add personal memorabilia, concert tickets, recipes, recipe cards and anything else that creates a vision of your goals.
Another tip to really make creative vision boards that assist in achieving your goals is to add those little personal touches that makes it feel real. One thing I like to do is take a screenshot of my mobile bank account & upload the photo to Canva where I edit it. I go to the elements tab and use two squares to place over my balances. I manipulate the squares into a small rectangles, just big enough to hide my real balances and then fill the backgrounds to white. I then use text to write what I want to see those balances as when I login to my banking app. Now, I have a very realistic visual of what it would look like to login and see that balance in my bank and embrace the feelings it would give me.
Another tip to make your vision boards more powerful is to really get clear on what things or non-things you are trying to manifest. I feel like people just mindlessly pick photos that are aesthetically pleasing to collage together, which is fine. But, if we want to take our boards to the next level, we need to get more specific.
We need photos that represent the real things we want. And don’t just choose things you think you should want, but give yourself permission to create what it is you actually want. It can be anything. For example, do you want to grow longer, healthier hair? Find photos of hair that looks healthy, strong and beautiful. Want to learn how to sing? Use photos of someone recording music in a studio, creating an album. Add whatever it is you want- it can be both the big things and the small things.
I got extra personal by printing my blog’s logo and sticking right in the middle of the board to represent growing my blog and brand. I have a couple pictures of the types of food I want to eat, the lifestyle I want to live and even a photo of luxurious perfume bottles because I want to find my signature scent. I included several photos of happy, successful couples because I’m manifesting success for my partner as well.
Before starting your vision board, have a clear idea of what you want your life to look like. Be clear about everything- the aesthetics, the technical and logistical details and include other people in your vision if they exist in your desired reality. Create a mental log or write your thoughts in a journal. I think getting clear on what we want is so beneficial in general, but especially for making creative vision boards we want to use as a tool for manifesting these things. The more you speak about, plan, believe and take the initiative towards getting your desires, the faster things will start to align.
SO, you have your desires in check, you have your cork board and cute thumbtacks and you’re ready to start creating. There’s a few tips I have for finding the perfect visual stimuli for your vision board. Obviously there’s Pinterest- the holy grail of cute outfits, pictures of vacations and healthy recipes. But don’t forget about Tumblr and Instagram, the other two social media platforms completely dedicated to visually aesthetic pictures. And you want your board to look cute enough to hang right near your desk or wherever you work so you can look at it throughout the day and feel motivated as hell.
I would also suggest using the app FreePrints when you’ve picked your photos and are ready to print- it really offers free digital prints! You can print up to 85 free individual 4×6 photos per month with a small shipping fee and they’ll ship your photos right to you. So much cheaper and more convenient than having to go to CVS and print your photos for like $1 a photo. This is a great option especially if you’re like me and like to update your vision board as your life and goals change.
Whatever you do, make your creative vision board emulate your imagination and don’t hold back. Put out exactly what you want into the universe and boldly hang your goals on your wall for the world to see. Fake it till you make it, you know? Live it, breathe it, discuss it and look at your desired reality every single day.
