We all know by now that we should be drinking plenty of water. I’m sure you’ve heard it so often that it sounds like a naggy reminder that’s become clichĂ©. When handing out health and beauty tips, people always advise “drinking plenty of water” as if that’s groundbreaking. But we all know how important staying hydrated is for keeping our bodies running optimally, especially when we’re active. Although it’s valid and practical advice, staying hydrated is easier said than done if you’re not crazy about water.
1. Drink Herbal Tea
This is why I love drinking iced herbal tea. It’s the perfect solution to more hydration for my people who also get bored of plain water. With some added lemon or fresh mint leaves, you get that flavor and enjoy drinking it without any sugar, additives, or any other bullshit. It’s just herbal water. I mean, that’s what tea is, duh.
So here’s how I make my water intake easy and fun. I throw a bunch of loose-leaf tea—butterfly pea and hibiscus tea are some of my favorites—in a kettle filled with water and boil it at night. After letting it steep for 5-10 minutes, I pour the infused water into a glass pitcher, refrigerate it, and voila! Not only is this a great hack for staying hydrated, but it also provides antioxidants and minerals. It’s great for your immune system, hair, skin, and nails.
Every morning, I fill my 30 oz. Yeti with ice, pour the iced tea with some fresh lemon slices, and sip from my favorite reusable stainless steel straw. This lasts me until late afternoon so staying hydrated while working is easy and convenient. And it’s heavenly. There’s something so soothing and nurturing about sipping on tea while you work. Keep a pitcher of iced tea in your fridge on deck at all times, and I’m telling you, you’ll get the hydration you need without getting bored of chugging water.
2. Add electrolytes
Fun Additions So Staying Hydrated is Easy
You can add mint leaves, lemon, honey (make sure to mix this when the tea is still hot), dried herbs such as lavender and thyme, citrus peels, and flavored extracts to your herbal tea. You can get creative and have your spa water every morning. Staying hydrated is now a tiny way you can add some zen to your life. It’s the small, productive things we find joy in that set ourselves up for success.
